Rescue Me ID: 15-09-22-00686Santana (female)

Belgian Malinois Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Santana is a sweet, friendly, 4- to 5-year-old female Belgian Malinois (approx. 58 lbs.). She may be pure Mal or possibly mixed with German Shepherd, but cannot verify (there are no papers). She was a stray adopted from the county shelter. Santana lived for three years with a family that also had a small, older terrier. The two dogs did not get along and eventually the situation put the smaller dog at risk. This is the only reason she is being re-homed, as her owners are desperately in love with her and just want to do the best thing for her. Santana plays well with medium/large dogs who can handle/match her high energy but are not overly ... (Read More)dominant. She cannot be in a home with small dogs, cats, or other small animals. As expected for this breed, she has a strong prey drive and will fixate on any squirrels, ducks, opossums, etc. that cross her path. Santana is an extremely happy, joyous dog with boundless energy. She LIVES to play with her 'person' (or 'people'). Tug is her favorite - she will bring you her tug toy first thing when she wakes up, and greet you at the door with it in her mouth. She would be ideal for an active individual or couple looking for a high-energy dog as a best friend and companion, who would devote the time and attention necessary to keep her engaged and well-exercised, as is required for a working breed. She has not been accustomed to children and may not be suited to a home with small children. She knows basic commands (sit, down, stay) and has been working on impulse control (she waits for a release command to eat and sits/stays before stepping outside for walk). She responds very well to training with both treats and toys. She can be left home alone for several hours, uncrated, and will not chew, raid the trash, or be destructive in any way. She's not so great in the car, as she is reactive to the traffic around her. She can also be reactive on walks - especially to loud/large trucks driving by, and the occasional bicycle or skateboard, though she has gotten much better with that. She can be difficult to walk at times (she pulls and wants to chase), and could benefit from more consistent exercise and some professional training. Santana is loved deeply by her previous family and her foster family. She is currently being fostered in Key Largo. We are working together to find her the perfect forever home. We will require a home check and a vet reference, along with a written agreement that she will be returned to us, and only us, should the placement not work out or something comes up unexpectedly in the future. We would prefer to keep her in Southeast/Central Florida so that we can easily do the home check, stay in touch and take her back if necessary. We would prefer to place her in a home experienced with Mals or other working breeds. For more information on Santana, please contact: Patricia at 954-304-4485 or Priscilla at 954-803-9016. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-08-26-00703Clyde (male)

Belgian Malinois Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Clyde is 5 years old,70 lbs, completely vetted, and micro chipped. While he's okay with other dogs (he can be dog selective) he would probably do best as an only pet or with a laid back female his size. No cats or young children( he can be over zealous with the little ones) and would make a great companion for an experienced owner. Clyde walks nicely on a leash and is always up for a good game of fetch. Clyde has a sweet disposition and is content to just hang out with you after some daily exercise.
