Rescue Me ID: 18-05-08-00344Shep (male)
Shep is a 6 yr old, neutered male, who was originally rescued from the Cobb County Animal Shelter. He worked for 4 yrs as a guard dog for a repossession lot until the business closed in March of 2017. He has been fostered for 14 months but now needs to find a forever home. He is high energy, a little OCD about his toy, afraid of the water hose and thunderstorms. He is crate trained but likes to chew pillows, fabric, blankets etc so cannot be left unattended in the house. Shep will chase the cat if allowed. He does live with other dogs and gets along fine with them. Shep loves to cuddle and thinks he is a lap dog. Does have a tendency to jump on people and has not been kid tested. I was told he was purebred but do not have papers. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-02-01-00144Blitz (male)
Hi my name is Blitz, I am a 6yr old neutered male, Belgian Malinois Shepherd Mix and I am looking for a forever family. I am a very sweet and affectionate boy who loves to cuddle. I know not to get on furniture, but will gladly if invited. I love everyone, even the UPS man. I am great with children, other dogs, and cats. I can be pretty stubborn and don't always use my head, yet I am very smart and usually learn quickly. Also I am protective and like to sleep by the door or where I can see the door, at night I always sleep alert. Chasing squirrels is my favorite thing to do. Well along with playing in the mud and wading through water; it makes me feel like a puppy. And car rides! Who mentioned a car ride? I love riding in the car and am super behaved while riding. Occasionally my back hips bother me, but it never keeps me from doing what I love. I am house trained and don't have accidents. I love to be in a kennel. I do alright at the leash thing. A fence would be great, but I'm good at learning to stick around and don't usually stray too far and always come home. If you are interested in giving me a forever home please visit the link below to fill out an application! http://fureverafterrescue.org/adoption-application.html It is best to submit an application through a computer. We have experienced some problems when applications have been submitted using a mobile device. *When you submit the application you are not obligated to adopt however it does reserve for you the opportunity to adopt that particular animal. We review them on a first come first serve basis. If your application is approved, we will contact you and allow you the opportunity to adopt. If you choose not to adopt we will contact the next approved applicant. If you have any questions or difficulties, please contact us we will be glad to help! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-12-05-00062Smokey Joe (male)
Revised Jan 29, 2018. Smokey Joe has a sponsor who subsidized his fee to $25. Smokey Joe has been at the shelter for 4 1/2 years and has waited the longest of any dog ever in our care to have a home. The long wait is not because there was no one who wanted Joe. It is due to the inability to find the person with the experience, skills and environment to safely work with him while keeping him safe. He first was adopted from the shelter as a puppy in 2012 and was returned in May of 2013 with an intense fear of leashes and anything that looked like a leash. Over time he has developed issues which were cause to put him on prozac, an anti-anxiety medication as a result of kennel confinement and a suppression of his spirit for such a long time. Joe's photos and videos show the great love he has for the caretakers who have earned his trust and total devotion. When in their presence he is joyous and will engage in puppyish behavior. We continue to seek an adopter experienced in dogs with behavior issues what could result in aggression. Much of Joe's behavior issues are believed to be due to the stress of long term shelter living and may subside when in an environment that lacks the stress that comes with being in this environment. But it is not possible to have any certainty that leaving this behind is the total answer to restoring Joe's spirit to one of being the full time happy dog seen in his video. Therefore, the only applicants that will be considered for Joe are those with experience in working with and healing dogs like Joe and who also have the environment that keeps Joe safe as well as people unknown to him. Joe is 6 years old and is a strong 78 pound Shepherd mix. We are seeking an adult only household with secure fencing that is in place at the time of adoption. Joe had a female companion in the play yards until she was adopted so homes with dogs will be assessed with the adopter. He has been uninterested in the office cats. Smokey Joe's fee has been subsidized by a sponsor to $25. He is neutered, fully vaccinated and tested free of heart worms. Joe takes prozac daily and his adopter may need to continue this medication short term or for the duration of his life. Applicants who do not meet the requirements detailed in this profile will not be considered and should not apply. Application can be submitted online at our website: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/dog-adoption-application/ or at the shelter. Adoption policies/application procedures are detailed under All Adoptable Animals. Adoption of all dogs/cats requires an approval process to ensure that they are going into a home suitable for their needs and committed to their care and safety. Each is placed with same due diligence that they would be given if they were our own furry family members. Adopters who are not within the local area of the shelter MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. Meeting approved adopters is one of the final steps in the adoption process. We do not permit transport or shipping of our residents without the adopter. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter which provides quality care, spay/neuter-all vaccines, deworming, vet exam, standard disease testing and for dogs-monthly heart worm prevention treatment. Resident animals are owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The shelter is not permitted by GA law to accept strays. The facility is usually operating at capacity with a list of animals approved for intake waiting for space to open. Adoption hours are Tues-Sat 10-4 and Sun 1-4. Closed Mondays Location: 4823 Helen Hwy. 75N, Sautee, GA 30571, Phone: 706-865-4135 Email: email@example.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/smithgallhumanesociety/ Charles Smithgall Humane Society is located in the mountains of NE GA, 3 miles south of the alpine town of Helen. Belgian Malinois Dogs can make good pets in Georgia if they match your IifestyIe. The Belgian Malinois is a large, dominant, intelligent, protective breed. The Belgian Malinois is usually used as a working guard dog. Malinois make good pets. They need to be with people and get enough attention or they can become destructive. Malinois should be socialized with children and other animals from an early age, and need to be watched around small non-canines. Malinois do best in cooler climates. Belgian Malinois are used to outdoor work, but can live in an apartment if they get plenty of daily exercise.
